Irrigation
Irrigation systems can ensure that water is available to the crop during dry spells.

Water is brought through a header pipe that runs the length of the field. A sub-lateral pipe then divides this water supply into crop irrigation zones. The number of zones is dependent upon the size of the field and the available water supply. Each zone has a sub-lateral pipe from which drip lines run, watering each row of the crop.

Generally, field irrigation systems consist of lines of drip tape or pipe laid on the surface of the field or ploughed into the soil.

Field and crop irrigation systems can either be controlled manually or by battery operated controllers located out in the field.
